About Guitar Island

Guitar Island is one of the smallest islands you can visit from  Long Island and is usually included as part of a speed boat trip along with Lalaji Bay Beach and Merk Bay Beach. Surrounded by crystal-clear water and an untouched shoreline, the island remains peaceful throughout the year with very few visitors at any given time.

The island gets its name from its unique shape, which resembles a guitar when viewed from above. While you won’t notice the shape while standing on the island, what you’ll experience instead is complete peace, clean beaches, and the feeling of being far away from busy tourist spots. With no shops, resorts, or tourist facilities, Guitar Island is simply a beautiful place to slow down before heading back to Long Island.

Reaching Guitar Island is part of the experience. You’ll first need to reach Long Island, from where private speed boats operate to the island. The ride takes around 30 to 40 minutes, depending on sea conditions, and offers beautiful views of the open sea along the way.

There are two common ways to reach Long Island:

  • Government ferry from Port Blair (subject to schedule and availability).
  • Government ferry from Yerrata Jetty near Rangat, a popular option for travellers exploring Middle Andaman. The ferry ride takes around 45 to 60 minutes and is one of the most economical ways to reach Long Island.

Hire a Speed Boat

Guitar Island can only be reached by speed boat from Long Island. The ride takes around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on sea conditions. Unlike Lalaji Bay, there is no jetty here. The boat gently parks right on the beach, allowing passengers to get down directly onto the sand.

A private speed boat usually costs around ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 (up to six passengers). Most travellers combine Merk Bay Beach, Lalaji Bay Beach, and Guitar Island in a single trip.

Things to Do in Guitar Island

Guitar Island isn’t a place packed with activities, and that’s exactly what makes it worth visiting. Most people come here to enjoy the quiet surroundings, spend some time by the sea, and experience one of the most untouched islands near Long Island before heading to the next stop.

Enjoy the Speed Boat Ride

The journey to Guitar Island is just as enjoyable as the destination itself. As you leave Long Island behind, the boat cruises through open blue waters with beautiful views in every direction. On lucky days, you might spot dolphins swimming alongside the boat or flying fish gliding across the surface before disappearing back into the sea.

Since most boats also visit Lalaji Bay Beach and Merk Bay Beach, the ride becomes an island-hopping experience rather than just a transfer between destinations.

Walk Around the Island

Guitar Island is small enough to explore on foot at a relaxed pace. Walk along the shoreline, enjoy the clear water, and take in the peaceful surroundings without the crowds found at more popular beaches. The untouched coastline and gentle sea breeze make it a pleasant place to spend some time before continuing your journey.

As you walk around, you’ll notice how quiet the island feels. Apart from the sound of waves and birds, there’s very little else to interrupt the silence.

Relax by the Shore

GUITAR ISLAND

Sometimes the best thing to do here is absolutely nothing. Find a comfortable spot, sit by the beach, and enjoy the view while listening to the waves. With no shops, restaurants, or tourist activity, Guitar Island feels far removed from the busier parts of the Andaman Islands.

Swimming isn’t recommended because of occasional crocodile sightings around the island, so it’s best to enjoy the beach from the shore and simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Combine It with Lalaji Bay Beach & Merk Bay Beach

If you’re hiring a speed boat to Guitar Island, it’s worth making a full-day trip by combining it with Lalaji Bay Beach and Merk Bay Beach. Most boat operators are happy to cover all three destinations for the same trip.

  • Lalaji Bay Beach: One of the best beaches in the Andaman Islands for swimming, with crystal-clear shallow water, soft white sand, and changing rooms with freshwater showers. It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours after visiting Merk Bay Beach.

  • Merk Bay Beach: Ideal for beach walks, peaceful surroundings, and couple or family photoshoots along the long stretch of sand.

Covering all three destinations together lets you experience three completely different sides of Long Island’s coastline in a single day while making the most of your boat trip.
